Hey, You're Just Too Funky For Me

I'm in a funk.

I'm not reading much, not really writing (I'm sure you've noticed the derth in posts and comments), certainly not editing.

I don't wear make-up every day or matching clothes and some days, I skip the shower.

I don't leave my house very often, don't chat with friends, and haven't had a Girls' Night Out since my mom was here.

And? I'm not even baking all that much. A newly-diagnosed diabetic gave me a bunch of sugar substitutes and asked me to try them out in some of my recipes (so I could tell her which ones were worth using) and I resisted. I waited a whole week before opening a bag.

Enough is enough! It's no fun being like this (and my house is a mess, too).

What do you do when you're just not feeling like yourself?

Sounds like we need to organize a bloggy lunch!

When I get in a funk, I do what I can to get out of the house do something I haven't done in a while -or have been meaning to do-whether it be going to a movie or treating myself to a new purse.

The hardest thing about "funks" is that they feed on them selves. You need to do what you dont feel like doing. When I was in the psych ward (long story) we were given a sheet that we were to fill out, a game plan on how to deal with those times you just described. Danielle had a good idea about getting out of the house and treating yourself. Watch a movie that you havn't seen in a while. My best "cure' is to call a good friend and just chat. Bottom line, do what you dont feel like doing as long as its something you would normally enjoy.

If I lived closer I'd pick you up and take you out on the town! Get you wasted on ice cream & chocolate, see a great chick flick, and be stupid for the sake of being stupid.

Instead, I suggest you ditch the kids & hubby, go shopping (get something you don't really need but you really really want), get your favorite take out, and pick up a movie at the redbox.

Oh, and smile, b/c I love your cakes, posts, and who else would help a wannabe cake decorator figure out how to pull off a classy booby cake :o)

I am in one too - I was inspired by your starting the couch to 5K so I started walking. I don't get out much, so just taking a walk up the road helps me clear my mind, and the sun is a natural anti-depressant. Give it a try. Then just pick something and do it.

I think the blue funk and messy house are a nasty downward spiral. My house often reflects my mood and it's weird how being in a messy house depresses me but I don't want to clean up when I'm depressed and around and around we go.
Also I never get enough sleep, I assume if I can just go to bed and get 8 hours it will be better in the morning.
Those are usually the nights when the dog is sick, or someone has a nightmare, or someone calls, lonely, from the other side of the country. Important things, all, but not conducive to a good night's sleep.
Sorry, I don't have any good answers. I'm just rambling on and on.

Drugs help me. I got in one of those where I was perfectly content to sit in bed all day, so I spoke to my doc. He asked all kinds of questions to determine the proper meds. It helped give me the boost I couldn't give myself. I can proudly say I have been off them for a few months now. Going to the Temple boosts my confidence too. Try reading your patriarcal blessing & writing achieveable goals. Good luck my dear. You are an insiration to us all & we love your blog updates!

A drive up the canyons along with a simple hike helps me. The sunshine, nature and just taking a moment to breathe always lifts me up. (Before I moved here, it was going to the beach to walk/read/write.)
Also, vaccumming is strangely therapeutic for me as I feel so much better with cleaner floors.

If you figure it out, let me know. I've been in a funk for 6 months or so.

Hey, my funk started on Monday. I worked out, cried on my neighbor's porch, ran home because I couldn't stop, then medicated myself with a biggie french frie at McD's and later made brownie bites-each contained more calories than I'd burned off that morning! Yesterday I didn't do a thing around the house, but last night we went out to eat, then my husband took the kids and I went shopping by myself. Shopping hit the spot! As did the brownies-every last one of them!

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that gets in a funk! Chocolate sounds like a good fix to me and shopping too!
