Friday Confessional: I am Dork, Hear me Roar

Photobucket

I confess...

I am a dork.

I've known about my dorkiness since junior high, when I first started watching Doctor Who episodes with my older siblings. Aliens are cool. So are bow ties.

I confess...

I denied my dorkside for years, all through high school, where I giggled over episodes of MTVs The Real World when secretly, I just wanted to read the latest Dragonlance or Xanth novel.

It wasn't until college that I truly embraced who I was. So what if I liked British humor and found Monty Python and the Holy Grail hysterical? So what if I read books about magic or vampires (before they were all sparkly and angsty)? And so what if my favorite movie is futuristic eye candy featuring Bruce Willis falling for a perfect, engineered woman? I love that movie!

I confess...

Sometimes, I still try to hide my dorkiness, but then I just come across as kinda annoying. I'm much better at being myself.

I confess...

I've learned that not everyone likes dorky stuff. That's fine. I don't always like trendy stuff (like ginoromous flower headbands on babies). But I'll still hang out with you.

Besides, more people need to drop the things that don't make them happy and embrace their inner dork. There's nothing wrong with dorks. There are a lot more of us anyway.

Oh The Fifth Element! One of our favorites!
Yeah the dork banner flies at our house all the time. We aren't exactly nerds but I'll own up to geeks--we are both geologists and really get into rocks and stuff.

Embrace it - you're totally right there are a lot more dorks than there are non-dorks. We pretty much already rule the world!

Hi! I'm a dork, too...at least by proxy. My hubs is a HUGE comic geek and I've sorta become one, too. I love Monty Python. British comedy is the SHITE! I'm thinkin' I really need to check out Dr Who. Seriously.

We MUST be related. I'm a dork, too (a Dr. Who nut, used to read all the Xanth novels, collected My Little Ponies, played D&D for decades, go to Renaissance Faires, loved Are You Being Served, etc etc etc).

Dorks rock!

Ah, very nice. I too have been much happier since I recognized and embraced my nerdiness. It doesn't make me any less awkward in social situations, but I don't leave the house that often anyway.

Your comment about the huge hair flowers made me laugh right out loud. Those have always bugged me!

Love it! The best line- "There are a lot more of us anyway."

I'd have to agree, most of us have an inner dorkiness...and we just need to embrace it! lol

Hi, my name is Autumn, and I'm a dork!

I embrace mine on a regular basis & fly my dork/nerd flag proudly! I spent WAY to many years trying to please others at my own expense...it's way funner to be selfish ;o)

I think the giant flowers/bows are obnoxious too!! Good thing I had boys!
