Teaser Tuesday: The Bell Jar

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:• Grab your current read• Open to a random page• Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I was developing a character that likes the goth lifestyle and, as such, thinks she's also obsessed with death and dying. She is very much into Sylvia Plath's poetry and pretends to love it, going on about the imagery, although secretly she doesn't really understand it much.  I thought I ought to read Sylvia Plath so I could write it better. Never having been a fan of poetry, I decided to start with her novel, The Bell Jar, about a young mother who slowly slips away into a deep depression.

Here's the Teaser:
"It didn't seem to be summer any more. I could feel the winter shaking my bones and banging my teeth together, and the big white hotel towel I had dragged down with me lay under my head numb as a snowdrift."
- pg 45, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

What are you reading?

Great teaser! I've had this on my list of "books I should probably read because they're good for me" for a while, but this is making me want to actually find the time.

I hope you'll stop by and check out my teaser!

Awesome teaser! I confess that I've never read more than a few lines of her stuff. Perhaps this would be the book for me to start with too.

One of my favorite quotes comes from the Bell Jar! Although, I did not enjoy the book altogether.
