I used to not like the tv show "Supernanny." It bugged me how the first portion of the show consisted of kids being horrible, parents being worthless, and Jo making faces at the camera. That probably had a lot to do with my ineptitude as a parent. Having no clue how to handle behavioral issues myself, I couldn't sit there and judge these others who were just as clueless.
But now, I've got it down. This week, anyway. Tomorrow might be completely different.
The other night, I was channel-surfing and came across reruns of "Supernanny." Eventually, the kids came and joined me on the couch. They stared in wide-eyed horror as a four-year-old girl threw the biggest tantrum they'd ever seen, completely with spitting, screaming, and flailing about on the floor. Boo turned to me and asked in a very worried voice "We're better kids than that, right?"
The Boy quickly chimed in with "We don't do that, right, Mom?"
I snuggled them both a little closer and assured them that yes, they were very good kids and did not behave like that.
Then after a moment, I added "But now you know what you look like when you throw your fits."
And ever since then, they have really been on their best behavior! I think I might have to insitute a weekly Supernanny session to keep this going...

You are too cute!
I am the one that watches the show and wonders if I look as inept as the parents on the show!
I have to admit, I have implemented some of the Supernanny techniques and...*wispering* they work..
It's like Scared Straight!
Best use of Supernanny I've ever heard. Boo-yah.
My SIL has a bunch of celebrity clients including the nannies from Nanny 911, who know Jo Frost. They said Jo is totally mean to the parents in real life (although she's great with the kids) and the producers have a really hard time out of hours and hours of tape each week finding enough footage to put together one hour of her being decent to the adults. I think that's hilarious.
Sometimes I try to photograph and videotape the kids throwing fits but they clam up when the camera comes out. What time does Supernanny air? I'm gonna try your approach! That's terrific!
Shear Genious!
That is great "We don't act like that do we mom?" Too funny! I watched the first part of an episode and I wanted to leave my TV room screaming. Those kids were horrible. It made me realize how good my little ones are.
Wow...that's really cool!
What a great idea! Next time one of them throws a tantrum, I might just record it!
ha ha ha! A lady after my own heart! Jalyse has a problem keeping everything so I had her watch the show on hoarding!
That is too funny! :) Keep up the good work Momma!
When my kids would throw fits I would throw a fit as well. Act just like them. It made them stop in their tracks and realize how horrible they were acting. Worked for us.
