Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:• Grab your current read• Open to a random page• Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
A couple years ago, the book group I was in picked These Is My Words to read. I didn't even read the first page and skipped the meeting where it was discussed. Why? Because I'd heard about this book. I heard about the struggles and tragedy that followed this woman as she looked for a place to call home in the wild Arizona territories. Frankly, I couldn't handle it. Then my new book group put These Is My Words on their reading list. I thought I could handle it this time around. I thought wrong. I made it to page 48 and just couldn't go any further. Too much pain and sorrow and tragedy with no reward. Too many children dying.
If you have read These Is My Words then tell me, should I even try to finish it? Or is it the same as A Thousand Splendid Suns? And don't just gush about how wonderful the book is to you, tell me why it's wonderful.
Here's the Teaser:
"It seems as if no one is spared a share of the torment, and some will have more than their due. Lord if you see this pitiful band of travelers, please lend a hand and see us through with no more dying. I've had enough to last me all my days."
- pg. 42, These Is My Words: the Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine 1881-1901 by Nancy E.Turner
What are you reading?

It does sound pretty interesting, but I don't know that I could get through it, either. I need reward with my suffering!! Good on you for trying again, and good luck if you decide to finish it!
Interesting book pick! Although, I'll admit it's not my kind of book. Thanks for sharing!
Here's My TT!
Btw...I am a new follower! :)

I totally get it. A Thousand Splended Suns was a tough read, and one of the toughest I ever read was Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. You definitely have to be in a "place" to handle some books.
My TT is much more light-hearted... http://etjrmbach.blogspot.com/2012/08/divergent-teaser-tuesdays.html
I haven't even heard of this book before.
Thanks for stopping by my TT.
I haven't hear of this book either. Interesting teaser, though.
It's not my type of book, but it does sound interesting. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
I actually really liked this book, but it does have some hard moments.
I think there are a total of 5 pages in that whole book that aren't completely depressing.
