Teaser Tuesday: The Maze Runner

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I've been dying read read James Dashner's The Maze Runner trilogy. But…I am not a patient person so I intentionally waited until the entire series was out* before I let myself crack open the first book. Unfortunately, I neglected to allow an entire day to read the book. Ended up staying up later than I should (especially since I'm recovering from surgery).

From the book description: When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls. Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

So imagine their surprise when the lift returns the very next day. And what is inside changes everything.

Here's the Teaser:
"A strong whiff of something burnt stung his nostrils: a sick mixture of overheated engines and charred flesh. He couldn't believe people could create something so horrible and send it after kids."
- pg. 127, The Maze Runner by James Dashner

What book are you reading?

* - Dang it! There's a prequel coming out! Aaaarrrrrgggggg!

I gotta say, I didn't like this book. I actually stopped reading it right at the climax, because A) I was getting a headache from rolling my eyes so much, and B) I found out the story doesn't end with the book, and I can't stand that. Pbbbth. But I must say you picked a great spoiler-free paragraph for a teaser!

I'm just starting to get more into reading. I really liked Hunger Games, maybe I'll give this one a try!
