Okay, I like vampires! (Even the ones that sparkle.) So when I heard the Scott Westerfeld (of Uglies fame) had a vampire book out, I scooped it up! A new take on vampires and a really good read.
Cal is infected. But this disease is not your typical head cold. Sure, he gets superhuman strength, sight, and smell, while craving red meat, but this particular infection doesn't like to play nice. Fortunately for him, he's immune. Unfortunately, anyone Cal kisses can become infected and the odds are they won't fair as well as he does. First, you start to not like the things you used to love, like chocolate or Elvis. Then you can't stand to see your own face in a mirror and sunlight hurts. Pretty soon, you aren't too picky about the meat you eat, even if that steak used to be your neighbor. So when during an investigation he meets a girl, Cal's first inclination is to stay away. But Lace isn't the kind of girl that accepts his carefully crafted story. And she might just be the very thing he needs the most.

"Something happened here," Lace said. "Something the landlords wanted to cover up. I need to know what it was."
