Teaser Tuesday: Soulless

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

As much as I love the look of Steampunk, I haven't been around it enough to see it "in action." Still, love the concept of brass and contraptions infused with Victorian era dress and manners. So when I heard about a Steampunk novel, I was intrigued. But when the same book also features the supernatural? Well, I am all over that!

Here's a portion of the info from Goodreads: "First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette." Alexia Tarabotti was born without a soul, which, luckily for her, means that supernatural creatures cannot use their powers on her. This ability also pushes her into a precarious position once a shift occurs in the previously contained vampire hives.

Here's the Teaser:
"'And'--she paused dramatically, lowered her voice, and in sepulchral* tones--'he had a fang lisp.'Professor Lyall looked shocked and blinked largely at her through the asymmetrical lenses; among vampires, lisping was the height of vulgarity."
-pg 19, Soulless by Gail Carriger

What are you reading?

* Because I had to go and look it up, thought I'd tell you, also. "Sepulchral" means "hollow and deep." Now you know! And knowing is half the battle.**

** If you caught that reference, then you are as awesome as me! Which is to say that you are also a big dork.

Hehe! Great teaser! I have this one on my Kindle to read. I do like steampunk, even though I haven't read too much of it.

Here's my TT.

I've been thinking about getting more into steampunk myself. I love the idea of it but haven't read too many actual steampunk books yet. Soulless sounds great! I may have to start there... :)

Here's a link to my teaser from Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. Thanks in advance if you come visit! :)

I read this book a while ago, but I remember that it had quite a few witty lines like this one. Good choice!

Nice teaser. That cover is AWESOME. I have to admit that the biggest appeal of steampunk for me are the book covers. Thanks for commenting on mine - I'm following you back!
